- (religion) A change of mind, a change of heart. To be saved by Jesus Christ, one must first change his mind as to what he deems is correct and willing to choose to trust in Christ for salvation. In English the closest synonym is repentance, but it is not quite the same. The word repentance implies a “turning away from sin†or a form of penance. This is an incorrect interpretationof biblical doctrine. One must first change his mind (metanoia), accept Jesus Christ as savior, then choose to change his life through the power of God.
